Dr. Anand Sahai was born in India, but raised in Montreal. He completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Immunology at McGill University in 1985. He then completed medical school, internal medicine, and his gastroenterology training at the University of Montreal in 1994. In 1995, he completed a year of training in ERCP and a Masters Degree in clinical epidemiology at the University of Montreal. 

In 1996, he was awarded the American Society for Gastroenterology (ASGE)/Olympus Advanced Endoscopic Training Award and trained in endoscopic ultrasound at The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) under the supervision of Drs Robert Hawes and Peter Cotton. He and stayed on as Assistant Professor of Medicine at MUSC for 2 years. During that time, he was awarded The American Digestive Health Foundation Outcomes Training Award and numerous research awards from the ASGE and the American College of Gastroenterology.

In 1999, he returned home to Saint Luc Hospital of the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montreal (CHUM). In 2000, he was awarded the prestigious “Chercheur Boursier” research grant from the Québec Foundation for Health Care Research. His practice is devoted almost exclusively to endoscopic ultrasound and to endoscopic research. The CHUM EUS unit is currently one of the busiest in the world (Dr Sahai performs approximately 3000 endoscopic ultrasound procedures per year) and is host to an internationally recognized EUS training program.  He has trained more than 500 endosonographers, from all 5 continents of the world.

 Dr Sahai has been a member of numerous ASGE committees and the Editorial boards of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Evidence Based Gastroenterology. His list of publications includes more than 100 papers, abstracts, and book chapters.
